Swansea 2-3 Norwich (link and graphics)
Two of the most exciting young managers in the Premier League did battle on Saturday.
I’ve written about the game at the Guardian, here are some graphics to go with that report.

The Norwich pressing meant Michel Vorm had to kick the ball long. Compare his distribution with the game at home to Bolton, when the opposition stood off and let him play it out to the centre-backs:

Can inhibiting Swansea really be accomplished just by pressing so that Vorm has to blewter it? I’m surprised no one else has done that. (By the by, congrats on the article ZM: very good stuff.)
Norwich are such a smart team, so impressed with them this season, the players seem to be getting more tactically smarter and I can see them they doing even better next season with some more quality. The only question mark right now is at CB where they dont seem very strong and can let in goals.
Ha, was just thinking as I was reading the Guardian article that it could use some ZM formation diagrams. Excellent stuff.

Swansea should have switched to 3-5-2 when Norwich switched to 4-1-2-1-2.

I didn’t see the game, but from reading your article, surely what Swansea should have done is to have played down the wings, through the fullbacks more, as this is where the space was as a result of Norwich’s change of formation.
I know you said Holt and Jackson cut off the passing angles to the fullbacks from the back, but there must have been space down the line for them. This seems to me to be the most logical strategy when playing against teams who play a narrow diamond in midfield.
Since the admin of this site is working, no question very rapidly it will be well-known, due to its quality contents.
