Have to agree re Australia in WC 2006. I’m still trying to work out how Hiddink did it! You are a smart observer to choose this team. He turned a very competent team who, til then, had never played well together (especially defensively) into a team that could hold position for long periods and look very comfortable. The only thing they lacked was more of an attacking threat.
If Kewell had been fully fit, Viduka at his very best, Bresciano on form, or the ref in the game V Italy not conned by Grosso, they might have gone much further.
Before Hiddink joined, Australia’s defense was like watching Keystone Cops. Hiddink took a defender away and made them a much more solid unit.
