Champions League pass completion statistics – Barcelona unsurprisingly come out on top

February 25, 2010

These are the pass completion statistics from the Champions League second round, first leg, as detailed by UEFA. They show a large variation between the 16 sides, from Barcelona’s 84% completion rate, to Fiorentina’s 57%.

Perhaps the most interesting thing is that, with the exception of Fiorentina (who went down to ten men away at Bayern), the other four sides in the bottom five here all won their games.

The most stark contrast between opposing sides is that of Real Madrid (80% completion rate) and Lyon (60% completion rate), and yet Lyon ran out 1-0 winners.

It would be foolish to draw sweeping conclusions from one-off statistics, but the stats nevertheless make for interesting reading.
